So if you like books about the outdoors, hiking, the human condition, emotional and physical growth, or if you just love a good story to disappear into, you should just add to cart now. There are moments that everyone can relate to in this story, struggles of identity and self worth that everyone can understand. Christine’s honesty about her relationships, the way that men approach women in outdoor/really any environments are clarifying in many cases. That is not to say that men shouldn’t read it, in fact the opposite.
There are moments as a man reading this that we just simply can’t fully understand, because women, unfortunately, live in a different world than we do. The ups and downs of her life, the moments, friendships, that led her to accomplish this goal, and create the life that best suits her. Interlaced with this however is her story, her unfiltered, sometimes uncomfortable truth. This by itself would be a book worth reading. The main character (the author herself) goes on to accomplish the amazing goal, finishing the Wonderland Trail circumnavigating Mt. What I didn’t expect was the emotional journey. What I didn’t know when I opened the book, was the two day binge read I was getting ready for. Alone in the Wilderness was a book I picked up because I saw it in my local outfitters shop, the cover art looked interesting, so I grabbed it.
